Mary Poppins Penguin DIY Costume
This years Halloween, my family and I decided to dress up as Mary Poppins (my daughter), Bert (my Husband), and the Penguin, ME (momma). This costume was very easy and simple to make, couple of the items I already had at home.
Now lets Waddle down to the craft store!
Materials:
* Black dress
* converse
* glue gun ( glue sticks)
* scissors
* pencil
* 2 adhesive white glitter foam sheet
* 1 adhesive Black glitter foam sheet
* 1 adhesive orange glitter foam sheet
* Plastic headbands
* black bowtie
Lets start with the Headband, the most important thing of the costume. I got the headbands at Michael's, I'm pretty sure you can find just one at the 99 cent store. I was already at Michael's, so I just got everything there. I got the black adhesive foam sheet, I started drawing a circle for the penguin head. I folded the foam sheet in half to get the same shape for the back of the head. I cut everything except for what was holding the back and front circles.
I peeled the back of the foam sheet and wrapped it on the plastic headband, whatever was left of the black foam sheet, I covered the white part of the headband.
Penguins face: I Traced one of the circles on the back of a white foam sheet, inside that circle I drew the top of a heart shape for the face. I placed it on the headband. With the extra black foam sheet cut out two oval shapes for the eyes, also with the orange foam sheet cut out a triangle for the peak of the penguin. After cutting all those shapes, place them on the headband and thats all for the head.
The next step, the dress. Whatever was left of the white foam sheet that I cut off the face off from, I cut that area more to make it into a square. I put the two white sheets together and cut off the top of it more circle ish and did this to the bottom also. That's the belly, I peeled the back of it and placed it on the dress.
The last step would be the feet, I drew behind the adhesive orange sheet a couple of penguin feet and cut them off. I placed them on my white converse. Boom! you have yourself a penguin costume.
Now who is ready to tap dance with Bert? I know I am!!
