"A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down The medicine go down-wown The medicine go down Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down In a most delightful way"
Lets get started!
Materials:
*Any white dress you have or can find (thrift stores) I found an Angel costume at a halloween shop $10
* 2 Adhesive Red glitter foam sheets
* (optional) 1 Adhesive White glitter foam sheet (micheals, use coupons!)
* white socks (walmart $1.47)
* white shoes (Payless $ 16)
* red ribbon 5/8in x 8yd (Dollar tree)
* glue gun (glue sticks)
* white hat (99 cent store)
* Faux white flowers (99 Cent Store)
* White Tulle (Micheals)
Lets get started! I placed the dress on the table, The Tulle I got had 50 Strips. I used two at a time and folded the strips in half. I messed around a little and placed the tulle in different places to see what way looked the best and then I glued it to the dress.
After gluing the Tulle onto the dress, I got the Adhesive Red glitter foam and traced out an out line for the faux corset. I made sure to measure the space I wanted to take up with the red foam, I checked how big I wanted it and where it would look the best. I also made sure I was covering the top part of the tulle, where all the glue is at with the red glitter foam.
I folded the foam sheet in half and started cutting the shape out. I did this to get the exact same shape for the second piece.
Before taking off the back part of the adhesive foam sheet, make sure you have it where you want it to be at. (Optional) you can leave space between the red foam sheet, like the picture above, so you don't have to use the white foam sheet to have the white lines on the corset like Mary Poppins.
Once you decided where you want the foam sheet at, peel the back of the sheet and place it on the dress. The back of the dress is also optional, If you want to cover the back with red foam too, so you can have a full around corset, make sure to measure the height of the two pieces from the front. Cut out your back piece and place it on back.
(Front of the dress)
(Back of the dress without the back red foam)
(The foam that will be placed on the back of the dress, I measured it and now I will cut it to fit the back.)
(Back of the dress with the red foam)
(This is optional, if you didn't want to have the spacing in between the red glitter foam shapes)
After placing the red foam on the dress, I cut out three white strips from the white glitter foam sheet. One of the strips will go on the left side of the costume on top of the red glitter foam. The second strip will go on the right side of the costume, on top on the red foam. The last strip will go on the Center on the faux corset, also on the top of the red foam
(Right side of the costume)
(Center of the costume)
(Left side of the costume)
Now to the very Last step for the costume!!!! Get your red ribbon and start making bows! I did 6 bows, two of the bows went on each side of the dress glued on the tulle, two more went on the sleeves of the dress glued on the tulle also (if your dress doesn't have tulle sleeves, just add them on the shoulders) For the last two bows, one will go in the front of the dress and glued on the tulle also. The last bow will be on the back of the dress, glued on the tulle.
I had a little extra red ribbon, so I glued some on the neck area of the dress (optional)
You are done with the dress!!! If you want a little more magic to your Mary Poppins Dress, Scroll down some more to see how to make the Hat for this wonder costume, or take a break and come back!
Any white hat will do for the costume, I got this hat at the 99 cent store. I also got the faux flowers at the 99 cent store, you can also add red flowers if you like. I just want mine simple and fast. The tulle was left overs from the dress tulle.
I glued one strip of tulle on the rim of the hat, all the way around. I cut a long stem from the flowers and glued it, in the front of the hat and did the same thing for the back of the hat.
Make sure to leave 8 strips off to the side and the rest of the tulle, you'll start from the front of the hat, wrap the tulle around the hat and end at the back of the hat and tie the tulles. Don't do all tulle together at once, do a couple at a time to get different volume for the tulle.
After tying the tulle on the hat, grab the 8 tulle strips you had on the side. Divide the tulle, you'll have 4 strips for the left side of the hat and 4 for the right side of the hat. Grab the 4 strips of tulle and glue it on the very top of the hat, for the left side, do the same for the right side. When thats done, you'll have two straps of tulle on each side of the hat. You'll be able to tie it under your chin, just like Mary Poppins. This is Optional I tied a knot on each strap to give it more detailed.
In every job that must be done, theres is an element of FUN!
